Collection: Hat Block Shapes

Wendy has an extensive collection of wooden hatblocks , some from the early 1900s.

Wendy also custom makes special hat shapes when commissioned by a client.

This part of the webpage is dedicated to showing the most popular hat block shapes available to then order your favourite and select a fabric and trim to suit your needs.

A hatblock is traditionally a wooden shape, onto which a base foundation material is 'blocked', using pins to help secure the foundation material in place to be finished. There are several different types of foundation materials.

From this point the fabric ( straw, paper etc) can be blocked over the base and finished, and the hatblock is no longer needed.

This is what makes millinery so sustainable - we reuse a hay block to make many different finished products from it- each an individual piece of wearable art.

Trims can then be added (feathers, flowers, quills etc) and the options are endless.

Pls note these hatblocks listed are not for sale.
