An amazing headpiece. Overtones of the 1950’s Jackie O hats.a classic 50’s style ring pillbox covered in pink and burgundy flowers
This hat is created on a custom made vintage 1950s French hatblock. The block was made specifically for a client of the exclusive Galleries Layfayette shop in Paris, France. The block is dated 1951, and still has the client reference number.
Such a rare block to use.
It is a beautiful shape, and is designed to have your hair bun inside the ring. It is made with a silk fabric over the base shape, and is extremely light to wear. To secure the headpiece is a long flexible comb at the top of the hat as well as traditional theatre hat attachment technique fittings of small crinoline pieces that you can pin through to secure the hat. Your hair bun sits neatly inside the ring. It is a tall shape rather than the flatter more open ring like my ‘Rebekka’ french ring- the block shape made for the same client in the 1950’s.
This specific example is covered with many silk flowers in shades of pinks and burgundy, all hand dyed to create a tonal effect. There are also beads and pearls mixed into the centres and around the flowers.
This is a totally unique hat. Its couture millinery. Although others may copy this block shape is so distinctive that it will be the total statement to match any outfit.
This hat is 100% Australian made. It has a pure silk lining in cerise.
Some hat shapes may look like this piece, but made on this vintage hat block there is nothing else like it in profile and balance. I have use this block for two the hats, totally different in design.
You can have your version custom made to your requirements, however this block shape in very limited in my use to keep it a unique hat.
