Description
Black wool felt cloche embellished with black organza ribbon that wraps around the crown. A classic rolled brim cloche hat. This hat is in pure 100% wool felt. Hand blocked and shaped. The trim is a velvet edge with a hat band of organza ribbon. A medium size headfit.
Cloche is the french word for ‘bell” meaning that the hat fits down over the head. The back of this cloche hat has the traditional shorter cut back brim edge to allow for the hat to stay in place, when you can put your scarf over the back of the hat.
Lovely and warm for winter. Easy to wear.
The cloche is a simply stunning hat shape and so easy to wear. This black wool felt cloche piece is the perfect autumn or winter cloche to keep you warm. Why wear a scratchy Bennie when you can look so stylish in a cloche.
The bell shaped cloche was originally designed by a French Milliner/designer Caroline Reboux. It was particularly popular in the 1920s and 1930s but has always remained a popular style. It has definitely enjoyed a revival in popularity with Television series like Downton Abbey.
The cloche hat is synonymous with the Flapper movement of the 1920s worn by young ladies wearing short skirts, bobbed hair and with a slight disdain for what was considered acceptable behaviour for the day. You might say wearing a cloche today is an ode to the past rebellious young woman. Or you might say it is simply a gorgeous easy to wear fashionable and stylish hat.
