Workshops are currently on hold due to the Covid-19 Lockdown in Melbourne. They will restart once the lockdown has been lifted. Classes missed will be rescheduled to new dates.
Millinery Workshops in different Techniques will be starting from mid July.
The classes are held at 260 Collins St, Melbourne 3000.
Classes start at 10 am in the morning and range in 3-5 hours in length.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS Students need to have basic hand sewing skills to participate in these Millinery Workshops in different techniques. Students will need to bring a basic sewing kit with them- a list will be provided. Students will be given written instruction guides for each class. Students will also need to provide their own speciality materials for specific classes. A materials guide will be be provided for each class.
GENERAL CLASS INFORMATION
BOOKING: to book these classes contact Wendy via email or by mobile 0416310028. As class numbers are limited Wendy needs to ensure that classes run efficiently. Students will be able to pay via a Square invoice, PayPal or bank transfer. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required when booking.
Classes run with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 4.
The workshop space in my millinery shop is large, and social distancing requirements are easily solved. There is tea/coffee available during class. Bathrooms are easily accessible in the shopping complex. There are shops available for lunch onsite if required (for the longer workshops).
The location is in ‘St Collins Lane’ and is a comfortable environment. The workshop space is an easy walk from Flinders St Station, Bourke St Mall and easily accessible to a wide range of tram routes. The shopping centre has an elevator and escalators to access the first floor location and bathrooms.
WORKSHOP OPTION 1: SMALL FEATHER FLOWERS
Learn to make TWO VARIATIONS OF SMALL FEATHER FLOWERS
Dates AVAILABLE: 18th July or 22nd AUGUST
Learn how to make small feathers flower buds, 2 styles. An introduction class into making feather flower buds. Two techniques will be taught using smaller foam base centres. One technique is simple curled buds created from individually curled and trimmed feathers. The second technique is a trimmed centre style feather flower, using the discarded parts from the first flower. An economical way to use your feathers. Students can choose to bring one colour or several colours/tones of feathers to make their flowers. Participants need to provide their own goose feathers. Goose feathers are available from millinery suppliers. More advanced students may wish to dye their own feathers before coming to class. A materials list will be provided for participants. WORKSHOP OPTION 2: SILK WIRED FLOWER PETALS
Learn to make WIRED SILK PETALS to create flowers.
Dates AVAILABLE : 1st August or 15th August
In this millinery workshop you learn the process of how to make individually bonded and wired silk petals. These petals are then combined to create elegant flowers which are able to be styled in different shapes. The timing of this workshop is 5 hours and includes a lunch break. This technique does not need any extra flower tools. Participants need to provide their own small amount of silk fabric, stamens and bond web mesh. Other materials and equipment are supplied. Students need to bring their small sewing kit. Lunch break is at the students own cost. Tea and coffee are available at the workshop. A materials list will be provided for participants. Class: 10am- 3 pm Cost: $160.
WORKSHOP OPTION 3: A LARGE FEATHER FLOWER
Learn to make a LARGE SINGLE FEATHER FLOWER
Dates AVAILABLE : 8th August or 5th SEPT
In this introductory millinery workshop you learn how to make an individual large feather flower. The goose feathers are individually curled and trimmed and positioned to create a stunning oversized feather. This workshop is 3 hours. Participants need to provide their own goose feathers. The feathers can be a single colour or a mix of tones of colour, it is up to the individual. Other materials and equipment are supplied. Students do need to bring their small sewing kit. Tea and coffee is available during the workshop. A materials list will be provided for participants. Class: 10am- 1 pm Cost: $140.
WORKSHOP OPTION 4: BASIC HAT BLOCKING
Learn to BLOCK A BASIC SMALL HAT BLOCK SHAPE
Date Available: 19th Sept
This workshop is an introductory beginners level class in basic hat base blocking. You will learn to use sinamay to make a small blocked hat base. The process of wiring and finishing will also be taught. Students can then choose to finish their hat base in trims of their choice. A choice of small hat block shapes will be available, or students can provide their own hat block. NB decorative trims are to be supplied by the student. Basic materials for the making of the hat block shape are included in this course. This course is 4 hours and includes a short lunch break. 10am-2.30 – Cost: $180
WORKSHOP OPTION 5: METAL SHIM FLOWERS
Learn how to make VELVET BACKED METAL SHIM FLOWERS
Date Available: 3rd Oct
This millinery workshop is a speciality workshop in creating metal shim embossed petals. The petals are bonded at the back with velvet fabric. The students need to provide some velvet fabric and shim. The technique for bonding, cutting and embossed then creating a flower are covered in this course. This course is 5 hours and includes a lunch break. Tea and coffee are available in the workshop. This technique has been developed by Wendy.
